OUR STORY

Story Spider Productions is a team of three women filmmakers, based in London and Nairobi. With backgrounds in international aid, community development and journalism, we got together in January 2013 to pursue our passion for storytelling through film.

MELANIE BROWN

Melanie has experience producing multimedia content for a range of news organisations and charities. She has worked extensively in Afghanistan, India and Latin America.

Amongst other areas, Melanie has documented human rights, poverty, social justice and cultural issues, and is currently exploring the use of photo-films as a story-telling medium.

Melanie's most recent project has been making a photofilm about women boxers in Afghanistan.

OLIVIA MUNORU

...is a Human Geographer, Coach and the founder of The Life Safari.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Human Geography, a Diploma of Education and a Masters in International and Community Development.

In her non-film-making career Olivia works in community settings worldwide, as a trainer and coach to community facilitators and consultant to NGOs. She has worked with a diverse range of groups including fishermen in Cambodia, farmers in Zambia and transgender sex-workers in Indonesia. Along the way she has heard many a storyteller, discovering that great stories can inspire powerful change.

The decision to make documentaries came from a desire to tell interesting stories back home that challenge people's perspectives and help us to learn about ourselves.
Olivia is a connector and a collaborator, and takes a facilitative approach to documentary making. She engages with people on a human level, making it easy for them to share their story.

The journey of Unladylike started way back in 1999 - when Olivia first stepped into the boxing ring....
